Updated: Sep 18

1. Six Finger & Falling Water Falls

Distance: 0 miles round trip

Difficulty: Easy

Review: Six Fingers Falls is much less of a hike than it is an experience. Only a short walk from the road, these falls are over 100-feet wide and offer beautiful cascades of fresh water right in the middle Ozark-St. Francis National Forest. It’s a perfect spot for dipping your feet in cool water, having a picnic, fishing, and enjoying the views. Easy, scenic, and family friendly!

Falling Water Falls is a short drive from Six Fingers and just as easily accessible. Here, you’ll find white falls emptying into blue pools, plenty of shade, and several great spots for sitting and relaxing. It’s also located conveniently near the Richland Creek Campground if you’re wanting to make a whole trip of it!

2. Compton Double Falls & Amber Falls

Distance: 2.1 miles round trip

Difficulty: Moderate

Review: This is a 2 mile hike located on the upper Buffalo. It can be a tricky one, with less of a marked trail than other popular hikes. Once you reach the creek, it’s easier to make your way down first to Amber Falls, a small but lovely stop on this scenic trail. There are several unnamed falls along the way, and you’ll eventually reach Compton Double Falls. A 40-foot waterfall that drops straight down, it gets its “Double Falls” name from the fact that the water splits into two separate streams when it reaches the bottom. Reaching these falls requires a little bit of bushwacking, but ends in a spectacular view of a true Arkansas hidden gem.

Difficulty: Moderate

Review: A 2 mile round-trip hike, the Glory Hole Falls trail is a moderate trip that leads to an especially unique waterfall. Unlike other falls that drop off a ledge, the Glory Hole is exactly what the name suggests: a hole! You can hike down into the overhang and get another perspective of this special place. The best times for the most water flow is usually in spring or late fall, especially after it’s rained. Though the hike is relatively short, it is steep, so it’s best to

4. Kings River Falls Trail

Distance: 2 miles round trip

Difficulty: Easy

Review: This trail is an easy trip that runs along the beautiful banks of the Kings River. It’s a great option for families looking for an uncomplicated adventure, or anyone wanting to spend a leisurely day in nature while still enjoying the scenery of the Natural State. As with most other waterfalls, the Kings River Falls are most breathtaking after a good rainfall, and the river at the bottom is a great swimming hole to cool off in during the hotter hikes of the year.

5. Triple Falls (Twin Falls) Trail

Distance: 0.3 miles round trip

Difficulty: Easy

Review: Another simple hike with an amazing view, Twin Falls, also called Triple Falls, is located on the Buffalo River in the Ponca Wilderness. These falls are 48-feet tall, and the trail leading to it is only a short walk.
