What Else is Recommended?
- If
you want to purchase trip insurance, it is available at many places
on the internet. Read the policy details carefully before
laying down money though, as it may sound more comprehensive than it
truly is.
-
That said however, DO go "Online" and buy a
Flying Doctor's
Insurance policy at
http://www.amref.org They are a good organization, and the
policy is very reasonable. If there is an emergency, they will come
to you wherever we are in Tanzania, and take you to a hospital.
Look at it and contact us if you have any questions.
- Go
to a "Travel Clinic" about 2 months before your trip to get the
necessary immunizations and medications for the trip.
-
Ask your medical practitioner for some "just in case" medication (Cipro
is what we use) if you should forget and drink unsafe water while
away from the USA where we don't have to worry about those issues.
-
Bottled water is safe if it is sealed. Always check it. Do
not drink any water in AFRICA unless it is bottled. Do not even
brush your teeth with tapwater.
- Tea
is also safe. This is partly why the British drank so much of it in
Africa.
- Do
not get ice cubes in your drinks.
-
Bring your medication, camera, binoculars if you wish in CARRY ON
luggage. Do not check these items, they can be stolen, and you
may need them with you if your checked luggage gets lost or ends up
where you are not!
-
Pack LIGHTLY. Do not bring more than ONE checked suitcase of
the size that you could actually bring as "carry on" luggage.
The luggage for 8 people must fit in a space in the back of the
safari van. A small carry on bag for medications, camera, etc.
is also allowed. 25-30 pounds of luggage is more than
adequate. Here is a list of what to
bring.
-
Emergency contact information for the tour leaders if the need
should arrive. The trip is safe, and accidents can happen
anywhere.
-
Photocopy of your passport to keep in a separate place.
